Family School Association (FSA) News: On behalf of the FSA, we would like to extend a sincere Thank You for your overwhelming generosity during the St. Ursula's Food Drive. Our meager goal of 1200 food items was blown away in the first few days of this event! We were told that the over 8,000 items that were collected equated to 12,000 pounds of food. Amazing! Suzanne Kinney, from St. Ursula's, called it “a miracle.” She also said that the supply which was brought in would last them until March, which will get them through the Winter months.

This was definitely a team effort from the boxes and supplies donated from OJ White to the American Homes van and driver who transported the food, courtesy of the Solomon Family. You would be proud of the 5th-8th graders, (with a smattering from 3rd), who helped several of our parents sort, box, and load the food onto the truck. Honestly, they made the daunting task bearable! Their help was greatly appreciated. The teachers did a fantastic job motivating the kids, which helped to add to the excitement. Congratulations to Ms Long's 5th grade class who pulled out a last minute win, collecting over 1600 items! Wow!
If you ever question, if the sacrifices you make to send your child to St Francis is worth it, we hope, during times like this, it will confirm in your heart that this is where your child belongs. There is no better life lesson that your child will learn than “to serve, not to be served.” It will go much further than any test grade or the “latest” in technology will take them. From Diaper Derbies to Toy and Food Drives, SFCCS will come together to make a difference in the lives of others.
As the Holiday Season quickly approaches, we would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas. We pray that our Lord will continue to bless our children, families, faculty and staff throughout the coming New Year.
Thank You again.
Sincerely,
FSA Executive Committee

ABOUT PSALM/WVCBL: St. Francis de Sales PSALM: PROUD STUDENTS AGAINST LANDMINES and CLUSTER BOMBS/WVCBL: West Virginia Campaign to Ban Landmines and Cluster Bombs are students and citizens committed to educating the public about the devastation caused by landmines and cluster munitions and the indiscriminate nature of these weapons leading to the destruction of innocent life, especially children, after wartime hostilities have ceased. We work to assist victims, to prevent future casualties through our service projects, and contribute to the universal signature of the treaties banning landmines and cluster munitions by ALL countries.

Counselor’s Corner
Support Groups
At St. Francis we have a comprehensive guidance program. Components of our program include Developmental Guidance in Christian Living classes weekly for each homeroom, as well as both individual and group counseling
Any parent wishing for a child to be assisted with individual issues through counseling within our St. Francis Counseling department, please send a note to Mrs. Payton, or e-mail the Guidance Department at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . When a request is made orally in the hallway, it can inadvertently be overlooked. We care about the well-being of all of our students and would never deliberately disregard any appeal for help

Again this year our Guidance department will be offering Support groups.
Our Sunrise groups are offered as support/education for children who are experiencing adjustments to parental separation or divorce. In the past some students have chosen to participate in these groups for more than one year. Students who have participated in prior years take on a role of mentor for those whose experience is more recent.

Students can be referred to participate in Sunrise groups by themselves or by parents, As a parent if you are interested in your child participating in one of the support groups delineated above (grades K-8) please fill out and return the following form to the Guidance Office or Mrs. Debbie Payton. (A few parents have verbally mentioned this desire--please send the form as well to assure that names are not inadvertently omitted)

Any questions, please feel free to call.

Keeper’s Information:
Dear Parents,
Please note that any child found where they are not supposed to be will be given detention during Keepers. I have spoken to the children regarding this.
We have several children attending the Keepers after school program who also have extra-curricular activities. If your child has an activity after school but will be returning to the Keepers program, please send a note signed and dated by the parent or guardian, along with instructions on your pick up procedure for the day. (ex. Son goes to choir practice at church until 4:00pm Son needs to return to Keepers program at school until pick up at 5:00pm.)
Your child’s safety is our number one goal. Please help us to keep track of your child’s comings and goings while entrusted to our care during the after hours Keepers program. Please see me if you have any questions or comments about this. Thank you for your prompt attention to this very important matter. You can e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or call my cell at 304-216-2844.
