SCRIP Program Information
We have many new families who are unaware of our SCRIP program here at SFS. For those families, and as a reminder for our existing families, I am sending home the details for SCRIP sales for 2011-2012. Thanks to all of the families who participated in SCRIP last year! Our Kroger cards alone are raising over $1000.00/month.
SCRIP is a fundraising program for our school that does NOT require families to donate any money. That is right, DOES NOT. Families purchase gift cards for various businesses, retailers, services, gas, groceries and restaurants. These act just like any gift card, and this is money you would normally spend. The school receives a percentage of each purchase back from Great Lakes Scrip. This percentage varies by vendor as you can see from the attached order form.
Every Friday, you will receive an order form from the school. (The form is also available to download online, through the “forms” link on our school website.) You submit your order to the office along with a check or cash for the total amount ordered, by Monday at Noon. You can send it through school with your child. You will receive your order by Friday, in your child’s book bag, or if you choose, you can check the “leave in office” option at the top of the form, and pick it up yourself in the school office.
Not every item that is available to purchase from Great Lakes Scrip is on our order form, just the most commonly ordered or locally available vendors. However, you can order anything from the website, just by writing it in the blank section of our order form. There are many travel/vacation opportunities available, such as Disney, Marriott, American Airlines, etc. Glscrip.com has a total list of available vendors. You can link to GLS through the SCRIP link on our school’s home page.
Kroger Cards: Kroger cards are reloadable gift cards useable at Kroger for groceries, gas and the pharmacy. The cards can be reloaded up to $500.00 in any one transaction, either at the customer service desk, or at some cashier stations. Kroger cards must be purchased through the school. Cards purchased at the store will NOT be credited to our school’s account. Cost is $5.00, and the card comes with that $5.00 already loaded on it. The return is 5% of all purchases. You do not need to do anything else; Kroger sends us a monthly statement with all transactions made for each card number.
SCRIP gift cards are also for sale at any time in the school office. This acts as a Scrip store. We keep an inventory on hand of commonly ordered gift cards. You do not need to order these; you can just come in, buy some and take them home with you.

Tuition Rebates: Families, who purchase SCRIP and/or Kroger, can receive a tuition credit. This will be 50% of the total profit on their purchases. An example: Family A purchases $7500.00 for the school year. The return on their sales was 5%, or $375. They will receive a tuition credit of $187.50. Families do not need to order for every child, just as a family. For accounting purposes, our SCRIP year runs from May 1-April 30. Rewards are calculated in June, and distributed according to your SCRIP Purchase Agreement Form on file with the school. Many of our regularly participating families earned $100.00 or more as a tuition credit last year.
Rebate Designation: All families must fill out and maintain a SCRIP Purchase Agreement Form for purposes of designating how they would like their rebate to be used. This form is required by the IRS for all families participating in SCRIP.
You have 3 options:
A tuition rebate, a cash rebate, or a charitable contribution to the school. Last year a record 25% of our families contributed their rebate back to the school! If you have previously filled out a form, you DO NOT need to fill out another one; however, you can change your designation at any time. They are good forever, unless you wish to change your designation. ALL NEW FAMILIES MUST FILL OUT A COPY OF THIS FORM.
Jean passes: Every month, at our prinicipal's discretion, every family who makes purchases totaling $100.00 or more of SCRIP and/or Kroger, will receive a dress down day. These dates will be announced in advance. This will apply to EVERY child in that family, so you do not need to submit an order for every child.
Credit Cards: Every year there are families who choose not to purchase SCRIP because credit cards cannot be used. The cost of credit cards to businesses is large, and in most cases, the cost per transaction would equal, and sometimes exceed the return for the school. GLScrip has estimated the cost per year of offering credit card use at 38% of our total fundraising. In our school, it would cost 4% per transaction to process a credit card. It is important to remember the focus of SCRIP purchasing, and that is fundraising. Families earning rewards for credit purchases will need to weigh those rewards vs. spending a little each month as cash for purposes of fundraising and supporting our school. Remember that credit cards CAN be used at Kroger to load your Kroger card.
SCRIP is a phenomenal way for a school to earn money. Many schools with successful SCRIP programs sell 0.5 million dollars or more a year. Again, at a 5% return, which is average, this is $25,000.00 in fundraising for our school without donating a single dollar. Our goal this year is to sell $500,000. Let’s make this our best SCRIP year ever.

2. Enter your username and password. For old families who have not previously accessed their account, the username is your email address, and your password is your phone number listed in last year’s directory. If you are having trouble accessing your account, please contact me, and I can help you get it set up. If you have already been using your online account, nothing has changed. You can continue to do so.
3. If you are a new family, I do not have contact info for you yet, so you must contact me to help set up your account.
4. You can place your order online and choose a payment option, either submitting a check to school, or setting up a prestopay account which will deduct from your designated bank account.
5. You can place orders online, as well as reload existing gift cards. Funds for reloads are generally available within 24 hours of reload.
